Melted chocolate, gooey toasted marshmallow, and cookies?! Three store-bought ingredients is all you need for these easy gluten-free vegan s'mores. The only question now is are we making them in the oven or by the fire?
I love these vegan gluten-free s'mores because they provide a quick and easy alternative to anyone with food sensitivities and/or allergies. Also, once summer hits the chances of having an impromptu fire night (or a craving for a s'more) increases significantly so I love to keep the necessary ingredients stocked in the pantry (you know, just in case).
If you have extra time or are looking for more of a homemade feel, here is an option for homemade gluten-free graham crackers and an option for homemade cookies (if using this recipe, use regular-sized marshmallows instead of mini as the cookies are quite large).

Frequently asked questions about vegan gluten-free s'mores
Typically no. Most marshmallows on the market contain gelatin which is the process of boiling animal products (skin, bones, etc.). Thankfully, Dandies makes a vegan alternative that is also gluten-free. The texture and consistency of both the mini and regular-sized marshmallows is spot on; you truly cannot tell the difference. Available for purchase online at Whole Foods, Amazon, and Thrive Market. Use their store locator to see if they are sold at a grocery store near you.
Yes! Substitute the graham cracker for a few cookies, use Dandies marshmallows, and swap out milk chocolate for a dairy-free option. *head to the alternatives section of the blog post for my recommendations.
Yes, there are gluten-free graham crackers, however most contain milk so they are not allergen or vegan-friendly. This recipe uses vegan, gluten-free cookies instead of a graham cracker for a delicious s'mores alternative.
How to make s'mores in the oven
- Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set the oven to broil
- Place cookie upside down on parchment paper and top with marshmallows (2-3 if using mini, 1 if using a regular-sized marshmallow)
- Add chocolate chips or a piece of a chocolate bar to the cookie/marshmallow
- Broil for 2-3 minutes or until the marshmallow is golden
- Remove from the oven and press another cookie on top
- Enjoy!
Gluten-Free vegan s'mores alternatives
Simple Mills Chocolate Chip Cookies: alternatively use any cookie flavor desired, homemade or store-bought. I've also made them using baked sweet potato rounds and it's delicious!
To make using sweet potato rounds; preheat oven to 415 and slice the sweet potato into thin rounds (place sweet potato horizontally on the cutting board and slice vertically). Place the rounds onto a parchment lined baking sheet and cook for 10-15 minutes or until a fork easily goes through the sweet potato. Remove from oven, remove half of the rounds (these will be the tops of the s'more) and top the remaining with marshmallows. Place back into the oven and broil for 2-3 minutes. Remove and assemble the s'more!
Dandies marshmallows; if marshmallows aren't your jam, use a plant-based coco-whip.
Chocolate: use your favorite chocolate chips (mine are Enjoy Life) or chocolate bar. Some of my favorite chocolate bars include; Tony's Chocolonely Dark Almond Sea Salt & Chocolove's Almonds and Sea Salt in Dark Chocolate. Alternatively, use nut butter.
How to store s'mores
S'mores unfortunately don't store well. After the marshmallow has been toasted it should be consumed immediately. Store extra marshmallows in air-tight container after opening the package.
