This Snickers protein shake is a vegan and gluten-free variation of the candy bar, blended into a thick and creamy smoothie. Each sip is filled with chewy dates, crunchy peanut butter, and bittersweet cacao nibs. It's my go-to when I want something sweet without turning on the oven or dealing with a single dish. 30 grams of protein and ready in 2 minutes.

Ingredients & substitutions
This Snickers smoothie is made with 6 simple ingredients that create a sweet yet nutrient-dense, high-protein drink:
- Almond milk: unsweetened almond milk works best. Substitute with any unsweetened plant milk of choice.
- Vegan protein powder: I prefer vanilla protein powder, but chocolate (or a combination of the two) also work.
- Medjool dates: add a caramel-like flavor that is a must for this liquid Snickers bar. Substitute with maple syrup, with slight flavor variation.
- Crunchy peanut butter: adds little bits of peanuts to the smoothie. Use creamy for a smoother texture.
- Cacao nibs: for rich chocolate notes. Dairy-free chocolate chips also work. Alternatively, use your favorite chocolate protein powder and omit them.
- Ice: a must for creating a cold smoothie.
Top tips for making this snickers protein shake recipe
- Protein powder: use a protein powder you love. I used KOS organic superfood vanilla protein powder. I've also tested the recipe with 1 scoop of chocolate and 1 scoop vanilla and it was delicious. If using an unflavored protein powder, add ½-1 teaspoon of vanilla extract or use vanilla almond milk.
- Soft dates: make sure your dates are soft and sticky before blending. If they feel hard or dry, soak for 5 minutes in hot water, drain, then add to the the blender.
- Consistency: this smoothie is intentionally blended with little bits of dates, peanuts, and cacao nibs in each sip. For a smooth protein shake, blend longer and use creamy peanut butter instead of crunchy.

Variations & optional add-ins
This Snickers smoothie is endlessly customizable. Here are some add-ins to suit your nutritional needs (or random cravings).
- Frozen cauliflower: swap ½ cup for the ice. Neutral in flavor but adds nutrients and extra creaminess.
- Maca powder: adds a nutty depth. Start with a teaspoon if you're new to maca, it's an acquired taste.
- Dairy-free yogurt: vanilla yogurt adds probiotics and extra richness.
- Frozen banana: add ½–1 frozen banana for natural sweetness and creaminess.
- Cacao powder: cacao nibs add great texture, but powder works for a richer, smoother chocolate flavor.
- Chilled coffee: decrease milk to ⅔ cup and add ¼–⅓ cup of chilled coffee for a mocha variation.
- Seeds: Chia, hemp, or flaxseeds add extra nutrients and thicken the shake.
- Pink Himalayan sea salt: add a pinch to enhance the flavor
- Peanut-free: swap peanut butter with almond butter or cashew butter. For nut-free, use granola butter instead.
- Dessert smoothie: add coconut whipped cream on top with chopped cacao or another drizzle of chocolate or peanut butter.
Storage
This smoothie is best enjoyed immediately after blending. Leftovers can be stored covered in the fridge for up to 24 hours, with some flavor variation. Shake or stir well before drinking. If it's too thick, add a splash of plant milk and stir.
