This blueberry smoothie is my answer to getting in a few extra nutrients with limited time and zero prep work. A scoop of superfood greens powder and vanilla protein blend seamlessly with sweet frozen wild blueberries and a fresh banana. All the nutritional benefits, with none of the grassy aftertaste.

Blueberry banana smoothie ingredients
- Frozen wild blueberries: wild blueberries have less water content than regular blueberries, which means a more intense blueberry flavor in every sip. They also act as ice in the smoothie to get it nice and cold.
- Fresh banana: use a very ripe banana with lots of spots. The riper the banana, the more natural sweetness it adds. Blended with the other ingredients, it creates a yogurt-like creaminess without any actual yogurt.
- Nut butter: adds healthy fats and removes any bitterness from the greens. Cashew butter is my favorite, but almond and peanut butter work well too.
- Superfood greens powder: adds well-rounded nutrients with limited effort. See the superfood section below for brand recommendations.
- Protein powder: vanilla plant-based protein powder works best as it adds a bit more flavor. Unflavored protein works too, just add a splash of vanilla extract and a dash of cinnamon for more flavor.
- Plant-based milk: unsweetened almond or soy milk works well. Swap with coconut milk for a richer smoothie or cashew milk for an extra nutty variation.

Best superfood + greens blend to add to smoothies
Any green powder with a somewhat neutral flavor works in this recipe, but these three are the ones I've tested in this smoothie and can recommend:
- Orgain organic greens powder + 50 superfoods: has a sweet cinnamon flavor that pairs extremely well with blueberry and banana.
- Navitas organic superfood + adaptogen blend for stress support: my go-to during hectic weeks. It has a really mild flavor, so I like to add a few dashes of cinnamon to the blender when I use this one.
- Navitas organic superfood + greens blend: this has the most "green" flavor, but warranted since it's loaded with greens.
Don't have a greens powder on hand? Swap with a large handful of fresh spinach or baby kale. The banana and blueberries balance it out, so you'll hardly taste it.
Variations & other smoothie add-ins
- No banana: This recipe relies on banana for creaminess and natural sweetness. For a banana-free version, check out this blueberry muffin protein smoothie.
- Spinach blueberry smoothie: swap the greens powder for a large handful of fresh spinach.
- Blueberry peanut butter smoothie: use peanut butter instead of cashew butter.
- High protein: skip the greens powder and add an extra scoop of protein powder, a tablespoon of hemp seeds, and a tablespoon of flaxseed meal.
- Extra sweetness: add a tablespoon of maple syrup, date syrup, or a pitted medjool date.
- Additional add-ins: maca powder, chia seeds, frozen cauliflower, or flaxseed meal for an extra nutritional boost.

Storage
This smoothie is best enjoyed immediately after blending. The banana and greens break down quickly, making it a smoothie that doesn't store well. Make it fresh
