Vegan monster trail mix made with popcorn, peanuts, raisins, vegan chocolates, almonds and pumpkin seeds. A perfect movie night snack!
There's two different types of trail mix in the world; typical trail mix that's made to energize you & this monster trail mix that is made to nourish your soul. It's a sweet and salty treat that is super easy to throw together. Make a batch and enjoy while you binge Yellowjackets or Shrinking.
Target's Monster trail mix catches my eye anytime I am wondering down the snack isle so I knew a vegan version had to be made ASAP. Feel free to customize it to be your own with more sweetness (banana chips, vegan marshmallows, vegan white chocolate chips, dried cherries, chopped dates, etc.) or more saltiness (pretzels, cashews, pistachios, etc.).
Ways to enjoy monster trail mix:
- By the handful
- With a spoonful of peanut butter
- Add to vegan ice cream or yogurt (maybe skip the popcorn on this one)

How to make vegan monster trail mix
Add all ingredients to a large bowl. Cover and toss to mix or use a large wooden spoon and gently stir together.
Substitutions & variations
- Popcorn: omit or use puffed cereal of choice.
- Salted peanuts: it wouldn't be a monster trail mix without peanuts, but salted cashews will also work in a pinch.
- Raw almonds: salted almonds also work, alternatively use cashews, pecans or walnuts (or a mixture of them all).
- Raisins: substitute with dried cherries, chopped dates, or dried cranberries
- Unreal crispy gems: Unreal candies (available at Whole Foods, Target, Amazon, Thrive Market, etc.) are a vegan version of m&m's. Substitute with dairy-free chocolate chips or chunks.
- Pumpkin seeds: swap with sunflower seeds or omit.
Optional ingredients to add in; banana chips, popcorn, gluten-free pretzels and/or vegan white chocolate chips.
- Peanut butter monster trail mix: add these peanut butter stuffed pretzels (gluten-free and vegan).
- Chocolate lover edition: add chocolate chunks or vegan white chocolate chips.
- Monster trail mix bark: First, melt 1 ½ cups dairy-free chocolate chips with 1 tablespoon of coconut oil. Then, generously top with the trail mix (skip the popcorn) and freeze for 20 minutes to harden. Finally, remove and break apart or cut as desired. Enjoy!
