A delicious blueberry banana smoothie made with frozen wild blueberries, fresh banana, superfood greens and protein powder.

This recipe is a green smoothie & fruit smoothie combined into one delicious drink - it's a perfect breakfast shake, ideal for busy mornings.
Smoothies are great for getting in nutrients in a no-fuss way. This vegan blueberry smoothie is no different. In fact, it's exceptional for how many simple ingredients are packed in with minimal prep work!
The secret? Using a green + superfood blend AND a protein powder! Both supplements are packed full of essential nutrients while blending easily into the smoothie. Check out my favorites in the blog section below!

Blueberry banana smoothie ingredients
The ingredients were carefully selected to ensure that the greens don't overwhelm the natural sweetness and overall goodness of the smoothie. Here is what you'll need:
- Blueberries: frozen wild blueberries are best in this smoothie! I don't recommend using fresh blueberries as we are using a fresh banana.
- Banana: a fresh, very ripe banana (one with lots of spots) is best for adding natural sweetness and a creamy texture.
- Nut butter: adds healthy fats while also removing any bitterness from the greens. Cashew butter, almond butter, or peanut butter all work great! Use your favorite.
- Superfood greens powder: use your favorite greens powder (recommendations in the blog post below) or swap for a handful of your favorite greens.
- Protein powder: vanilla plant-based protein powder works best. If using unflavored, add a splash of vanilla extract.
- Plant-based milk: unsweetened almond milk or soy milk are my favorites in this smoothie. Swap with coconut milk for an extra creamy twist or cashew milk for an extra nutty variation.
I love using fresh bananas in this blueberry smoothie - it's similar to yogurt when blended and creates an irresistible texture in combination with the other ingredients. If you're using a frozen banana, increase the milk and add another tablespoon of nut butter for similar results.

Best superfood + greens blend to add to smoothies
- Orgain organic greens powder + 50 superfoods
- Navitas organic superfood + adaptogen blend for stress support
- Navitas organic superfood + greens blend
- AG1 greens + multivitamin, prebiotic, probiotic, immune support, and adaptogens (note that if you use AG it does add a pineapple flavor to the smoothie that does overpower some of the other ingredients)
Don't sweat it if you don't have a superfood + greens blend on hand. The smoothie is just as delicious without it. Check out the section below for other nutrient-rich smoothie add-in ideas!
Variations & other smoothie add-ins
- No banana blueberry smoothie: swap the banana for ¼-1/3 cup of vegan yogurt or check out this easy blueberry muffin protein smoothie
- Spinach blueberry smoothie: swap greens powder with a large handful of spinach
- Blueberry peanut butter smoothie: use peanut butter instead of cashew butter, perfect for my fellow peanut butter lovers!
- High protein: skip the greens and add another scoop of protein powder or another tablespoon of nut butter + hemp seeds and flaxseeds.
This smoothie is easy to customize and make your own! For added sweetness, add a tablespoon of maple syrup, date syrup, or pitted medjool dates.
For a boost of nutrition add any of the following ingredients:
- Maca powder
- Chia seeds
- Flaxseed meal
- Handful of spinach
- Frozen cauliflower
- Hemp heart/hemp seeds
Storage
Due to the smoothie containing banana and greens, it's best to enjoy immediately after making. Do not store or freeze after blending.
