Vegan strawberry smoothie ingredients
This strawberry smoothie comes together with just a few simple ingredients. The seeds are optional, but are a great way to add extra nutrients, easily!
- Strawberries: frozen strawberries work best to help provide a cold, milkshake-like consistency. Fresh strawberries will result in a slightly watery smoothie.
- Dairy-free milk: a must for a creamy smoothie. Unsweetened almond milk, soy milk, or coconut milk works best in this recipe.
- Yogurt: helps to create a creamy texture and add a bit of flavor (+ probiotics). Use your favorite strawberry, vanilla, or plain dairy-free yogurt. I love Culina bourbon vanilla.
- Protein powder: add a scoop of your favorite vanilla protein powder. Sub with chocolate protein powder for a chocolate covered strawberry protein shake.
- Maple syrup: A tablespoon adds just the right amount of sweetness in combination with the other ingredients. Substitute with 1-2 medjool dates or date syrup.
- Hemp seeds: adds additional protein, calcium, magnesium and more. Swap for chia seeds for additional fiber.
- Flaxseed meal: adds omega 3s, antioxidants, magnesium, and potassium.

Variations and add-ins
Homemade smoothies are great for how easy they are to customize. Swirl in your favorite nut-butter, add a handful of cacao nibs, or toss in some vegan collagen powder.
Feeling creative? Here are some other variations and add-in ideas:
- Strawberry milkshake. Add a scoop of vanilla ice cream and/or top with vegan whipped cream and sprinkles.
- Green smoothie. Add a handful of spinach or kale - note that it will change the color of the smoothie but will still be delicious!
- Smoothie bowl. Decrease the amount of milk and add to a bowl after blending. Top with granola and other toppings of choice and enjoy!
- Banana. Add ½ ripe banana (the more spots the better).
- Tropical twist. Add pineapple and/or mango. Swap ¼ cup of milk for orange juice or coconut water.
- Beetroot powder. Add 1 teaspoon for a deeper red smoothie color, as well as the nutrients of 1 beet!
- Vanilla extract. If using plain protein or plain yogurt, add ½ teaspoon of vanilla extract or vanilla bean seeds if desired.
- High-protein. Use soy milk or flax milk (plant-based milks with higher protein) and add a tablespoon of peanut butter, almond butter, or cashew butter.
Storage and serving
Smoothies taste best fresh out of the blender. However, it can be stored for up to a day in the fridge. Store in a mason jar (or something similar) for best results.
